Bird food and Russian hats

Birdbaaaalls :-)
Jacket: New Look
Stockings & socks: New Look
Shoes: Claire's

Today I discovered that we still had some bird food balls so I decided it was time to hang them up outside, hoping it's not too late for the poor little birdies (I did some bird cries and some answered so we know they're still out there!) (ok some of you might think "bird cries?" I'm really good at reenacting animal sounds, I talk to my cats aaaall the time :p) Anyways, in these cold times I often rarely leave my house, I love cold winter walks but it's just so nice and comforting inside that it often gets the upper hand. But today when I ventured out, the fresh tingling air felt so good that I remembered how much I love the outside, and it's too bad that I so often get stuck in my comfort zone instead of pushing my barriers and adventuring out into the wild world. But then again there's nothing wrong with being a girl that loves comfort. I used to be quite the party girl but honestly these days I'd rather stay inside with my family and watch some telly, hang out in the sofa and bake with my sisters. Clubbing, especially in the colder seasons just isn't my cup of tea anymore :p
I don't know if it's because I'm getting older and wiser and realized there's more to life than downing tequila shots, or maybe I've just become a boring old lady but whatever it is, it's funny how much you can change in just a few years.
I remember there were times when I couldn't wait till it was friday, and would barely be home the entire weekend. Maybe it's because my family went through a rough patch then, and now 4ish years later, we've been through divorce, fights, lost friendships and drama but I've never loved my family more. Maybe we're catching up on lost time. Hanging out in the sofa with my mom and three sisters, or having a quiet fun (well quiet will never happen :p) dinner is awesome now but used to be rare, or lets just say often paired with drama and a lot of yelling... So even though now we may not be the stereotype traditional family, we are a happy one.

Doesn't this hat make me look Russian? Hi I'm Svetlana :-)

I love this skirt, I bought it in Forever 21 on my first trip in New York
How cute are my cats!!!

Brrr

Today was cold, and I should know because I was outside, in the bitter cold, for more than 3 hours, in order to perform for this cool project called "Tournée Médicale". It's an organization that sets up events in all universities around Belgium. It's specifically aimed at med students to help them find their way in their future medical careers. So they offer information but at the same time also entertainment, and today it just happened to be moi and 'Mathieu & Guillaume', a very good singing duo, who were in charge of providing that entertainment... I just did a short set (with the help of  my two awesome guitar players) of three songs and all I remember thinking is "wow I can't feel my feet" :p Still I hope they thought it was worth bearing the cold for and that all the students had a great time, because it did take some effort (and thick socks) to stand outside for that long, so thanks to everyone who showed up :-)
Have a great friday night, party like a rockstar!

Fun & Inspirational Photography

A few days ago, I watched a documentary on David LaChapelle, a famous photographer. Of course I had heard of him but I hadn't seen many of his photographs. I was intrigued by the ones I did see and I love his work now! It's so fun and different and there's always a meaning behind them, you can look at them for ages and still discover something new every time. Here are some of my favorites...

He gets a lot of  his inspiration from historical paintings and you can really see that in this photograph.

It's nearly christmas time!

Enjoy your cereal :-)

Model: Devon Aoki
Alicia Keys

Which one is your favorite?

Have a great evening :-)

Beauty product must-haves!

Some of my favorite beauty products of 2010

John Frieda "Root Awakening"
It smells so good! And really gives your hair some oomph.

Hawaiian Tropic "SunDial"
This self tanner is amazing, you can choose how dark you want to go and it gives you an amazing glow, the typical self tanner smell isn't even that bad.

Ren "ClearCalm 3 Anti-Blemish Clay Cleanser"
This clears up your skin in only a few days. When I'm good and use it in the morning and at night my skin is flawless. And when you've been naughty and too lazy, it clears up your skin in no time!

Biosilk "Silk Therapy"
I put this on my hair ends and its amazing... It's great against split ends and gives your hair that million dollar shine.

Dermalogica "Multi Vitamin Power Recovery Mask"
This mask has magical powers, it gives your skin that 'after a walk in the park glow' or other glow enhancing actions... A definite must-have.

Olaz (In other countries it's "Olay" very confusing) "Complete Multi Radiance Light Reflecting Lotion"
My favorite moisturizer and I've tried plenty but always come back to this one.

CHI "Ionic Color Protection System"
This shampoo makes my hair look super healthy. It doesn't damage it at all because it has no sulfates which most shampoo's do contain even though it's not that good for your hair. If you have some extra cash, def splash it on this shampoo.

These are all great products and I'd recommend them to anyone! Let me know if they work for you :-)
And if you want to share your favorite products, don't hesitate to share because I love trying out new stuff!

Lyrics of the week!

Every time I listen to this song it just really gets me, it gives me goosebumps. Being 20 is a lil scary sometimes, you really are at the start of your life, you have all these dreams and ambitions but really don't know how it's all gonna go down. Sometimes you (well I know I do) wish that it could all be simple again, and you could just rely on your mom and not be responsible for your own life.  So these are my favorite lyrics at the moment, it's what I've been trying to tell my little sister over and over and if Taylor hadn't written them, then I would have :-)

Never Grow Up
by Taylor Swift
Your little hand's wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
To you everything's funny
You got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up
Never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At 14, there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots
But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older too
And don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple
No one's ever burned you
Nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to
Please try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother's favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder than I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up

Oh I don't wanna grow up
Wish I'd never grown up
I could still be little
Oh, I don't wanna grow up
Wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple
Won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to
Please try to never grow up
Oh
Don't you ever grow up
Oh
Never grow up
Just never grow up

What are your favorite lyrics atm?

English Shopping

I spent my weekend in Nottingham, famous for Robin Hood, lace and coincidently also my best friend/muse's home town. Whenever I go to England I know I won't come back empty-handed but empty-'walleted'... (lucky for me that I just got a Visa woohoo! though maybe not so safe/smart) I'm not sure which city I love more; London is amazing, vibrant and sizzling but Nottingham definitely has its charm. When you go to Nottingham you get a taste of the 'real' England; the good, the bad and the ugly. The town centre is cosy, they have amazing bargain and outlet shops and in no time you are in the breath taking country (and since it's a student town the drinks are mega cheap). Here are some of my favorite shops that I can't miss when I'm across the pond..

-Primark; Super cheap and always on top of the latest trends, avoid in weekends or you'll have to cue for hours.
-River Island; Awesome shoes, awesome clothes, awesome everything... Seems like the prices are going up sadly enough though. !Their first store opened on the Meir in Antwerp, Belgium not so long ago!
-Next; Amazing clothes yet a tad pricey so I always drop by their outlet store in McArthur Glenn.
-Tesco; A superbig supermarket chain, I must admit though that I don't go there for the beef but for the clothes and CD department. Their brand F&F, is very affordable and you can always find 2 or 3 amazing pieces.
-Jane Norman; You have to look good to find something because some of the pieces can be on the edge of being slightly trashy but you can find some winners.
-la SENZA; They have some really good christmas presents on sale at the moment, already bought a load of pressies here.
-TK Maxx; Designer labels for less. You can find amazing beauty products and clothes here for a fraction of their original price.
-Claire's; Don't really attempt entering this store in Belgium because it is always tiny and crammed, but bought some very cool boots here yesterday so if you're feeling adventurous...
-Bank; a store I discovered in Nottingham this weekend, has some very cool labels like Lipsy, Paul's Boutique, UGG,...
And when you're in London you can't not go to Selfridges, Topshop and Anthropology.

Hope you all had a fun weekend and are fresh and ready for the week!

Clear Skies

There was so much mist yesterday, you could hardly see anything around you. It's strange how all the fog has cleared up today. It's like when your thoughts get foggy and your judgement clouded, but sometimes all you need is a good nights rest and you wake up with a clear mind, no fog in sight and ka-boom you know the asnwer to your dilemma. Don't you wish it was always that simple; you sleep on it and wake up knowing what to do. But what if the fog won't leave your head and it's getting in the way of making decisions. How do you get rid of it? How do you not run into traps or wrong decisions just because you didnt't see it coming? I guess all you can do is wait till the fog clears up, you can't force it and time will tell. But in the meantime, while you're waiting for it to dissappear, how do you make sure you don't hurt anyone? Maybe you don't have time for answers and need to choose a direction before you can see what's ahead of you. Will you ever know what the right direction is? And hopefully everything does happen for a reason and in the end, you always choose the right path for you. We all have our own fog to deal with. So here's to not thinking clear.

Ikea, Maison Du Monde and Pink shoes...

I love my room, but it has a slanted roof so when i sit at my desk I get claustrophobic because the roof practically touches my head... and after wondering how to get rid of this problem and making homework on my bed for years I remembered that we have an amazing room in our house that no one really uses. So I took it upon myself to make it look pretty and I have officially named it my office. So on this lovely day my mom, my sis and I went to the IKEA and Maison Du Monde to buy some things to bring this dump back to life :-) I loved so many things they had at Maison Du Monde but it was ridiculously overpriced... but next time I go, after I win the lottery (obviously) I'm gonna empty that store.

Maison Du Monde

Zebra Striped Pillow: Maison Du Monde

Super Awesome Plant and Plant Pot: IKEA

Gold Bowl thingy: Maison Du Monde

Our IKEA food stash... Best Meatballs in the universe

Me, working hard... No I wasn't watching Gossip Girl...Ok maybe I was :p

I'm trying to keep the room professional but with a cool/girly touch but when I invite important business people over I want them to know I mean business, yes even though I wear pink shoes :-)

Monday Madness

I like mondays, but if I tell you why you're gonna think I'm crazy... I don't mind the long school day I have every monday (well at least if I actually go), the after-weekend dip, and my hard power-yoga class..  I endure it all with a smile on my face because a new monday, means a brand new week of my fave television series. Monday = Bones, Tuesday = The Mentalist & Castle, Thursday = Private Practice & Cougar Town and often these series are my instant mood uplifters! (and don't get me started on the other shows I follow online! okay well I can't help myself: Gossip Girl, Glee, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Pretty Little Liars,... and ok I'll stop before I start talking about the DVD sets I'm waiting for... well if you reeeeally wanna know: Desperate Housewives, Weeds, and many more :p)
But also, mondays symbolize a new start start, well for me anyways. You know how it is, every friday you'd say 'monday I'll start eating healthier' or 'I'll start working harder for school on monday' and you probably will for a day or two, but it doesn't matter if by wednesday you're munching on your favorite chocolate bar because there will always be the next monday.

On another note here are some of my favorite things of this week/month/forever:

-My two guitars, they are awesome friends :p-

-I got this little journal/diary/notebook in Anthropology, they don't have one where I live, but every time I'm in London or New York it's one of my first stops. It's just a beautiful store, they have clothes but miraculously I am waaay more into the bits and bobs they sell, it's a definite must see to if you're ever near one. This specific diary is awesome because it has different sections and is great for if you're out of your own ideas "daily to-do list, daily doodles, daily expenses, daily journal"-

-I'm obsessed with Taylor Swift's songs. I'm still in love with her Fearless CD but I'm really into her new one too. Her lyrics are just so real and every time one of her songs starts playing I instantly smile. My favorite songs on this CD so far are 'Mine' 'Sparks Fly' 'Back to December' 'Speak Now' 'Mean' 'Never grow up' and 'Better than revenge' I know, practically the entire album :-)-

-How can you not love this little pink and cute laptop? And it's small enough to drag along to uni!-

Any suggestions for awesome TV shows I should be watching?

Fall Fashion on a Lazy Sunday

                                                      Pic 1
Sundays, sometimes they're heaven however sometimes they can be hell. Everyone loves lazying around a bit from time to time, but if it gets too lazy and there's not much to do, I go crazy. I need to keep busy and do stuff, it doesn't have to be important, it could just be baking or being creative and writing a song. Today's staying productive and killing time strategy was taking some pictures. I figured why not go outside because I love the fall; the colors are beautiful, the air is fresh and it's still warm enough to not freeze your booty off so today my sis and I ventured outside. I put some stuff together and just maybe if you're out of ideas and need some inspiration for this autumns style, i hope these pics can help ;)

Welcome, let me introduce myself :-)

Hi everyone,
This is my very first post so i thought it would be appropriate to introduce myself. I'm Alice Avery; serious singer, crazy cupcake creator, studious student, super sister and lover of life. So I'm a singer, or at least I love singing, I'm a signed artist and I'm in the middle of creating my very first album! It's all very exciting :-) This album is like my baby, I'm writing all the songs and I can't wait to let everyone hear it, it really is a projection of my life, well maybe sometimes with some sparked imagination, but u catch my draft right :p (i know it's drift but inside joke). So with the release of the first single coming up in the near future I thought it would be fun to share the lead up to it... To show people everything that happens in my life and what a 'starting out/upcoming artist' actually does... sometimes it might be random stuff like me baking yummy cupcakes (of course I'll share recipes ;-))  or sometimes I might talk about days at the studio, or important meetings with music industry hotshots or sexy photo shoots... but this'll kinda be like my journal :-)
And I know it might be random but who knows maybe if you're bored, you'll actually enjoy reading my posts or at least you'll have killed some time that you could probably be using much more usefully by watching an awesome episode of cougar town or if you're crazy by studying for the upcoming exams!
Anyways, thanks for even visiting this site while I'm still a "nobody" and I hope I can entertain you in the future ;)
Have a great day and don't forget to smile!
x
